... Juan was going to ask something else when they were interrupted by a man who was leading another man tied by the neck and hands with a rough rope, he asked.
– Master, where is the temple of justice?
Juan's mentor glanced at the man he was dragging. Then he looked at the plaintiff, with that inquisitive look that can make anyone uneasy, and simply pointed in the direction of where the temple was. Faced with such an attitude, the man felt the need to justify himself.
– This man has entered my crop and stolen part of my harvest. Justice must be done, his hands must be cut off, as the law says.
The teacher looked in another direction as if he did not give importance to what he was saying, the man remained silent and as he did not find an answer, he tried to leave, when the teacher spoke loudly as if he were lost in thought, looking nowhere.
– Mother Earth does not look at who provides food, everyone can harvest and share to satisfy their hunger, because she gives and does so in abundance, without looking at who takes it. How else could it be? What kind of world would this be in which we live, if we are not capable of providing for those who have a need, such as hunger? Justice is right, it also foresees generosity and compassion–. The teacher pointed out sharply and without looking at him.
The man was stunned by these words, the teacher was right, and if an act like that was not well justified, he too would be punished for his lack of charity, so he reluctantly released the prisoner, turned around and left.
The thief quickly removed the rope and knelt down in front of the master. – Thank you sir, I have simply borrowed something for my children. I have fallen into disgrace. The animals have eaten all my harvest and I didn't know what to do. I have no seed to sow.
The teacher took a small bag from under his clothes and gave him nine seeds that would serve to start sowing, without saying anything else.
The man left extremely grateful.
– But teacher! Juan was upset. – You have left him your only seeds! What will you sow for yourself? You are a poor man! – Chac-ek. He explained patiently – You cannot be judge and executioner without giving someone something to make amends. What kind of Justice would we be talking about if we only gave punishment without teaching?
In a later dream, the same thief arrived happily. A year had passed in the dream. He saw the thief return thirteen corn seeds to the master to plant, and he told him that he had returned what he had stolen.
– You have made amends for your fault with you, with the victim, you have paid your debt to me, but now you have to do it with the judges of the law.
The man trembled at the master's sentence. Shrugging his shoulders, he went to the temple of justice, which was located next to the snail temple. Silently and very frightened, he reached the portal that was heavily guarded by two well-armed warriors. He asked permission to enter, but the warriors crossed their spears in response, it was a sign that one could not enter there standing up. He knelt down, almost crawled forward and bent over and full of fear he passed between the weapons, and from the entrance he began to ask for forgiveness, he was sweating with fear, once inside and almost in the dark, after a long act of sincere contrition, he asked for mercy and silently awaited the sentence. After a few moments, still trembling with fear, he looked up and saw that the temple was empty. At that moment he understood that a true temple of justice was a place of reconciliation with oneself. The man cried like a child, understanding what true mercy meant.
